Clearances

The idea of clearances is to move something in the way or getting rid of it. Basically you will need legal permission to do stuff and if you don't you can get sued or arrested or even worse dead.

MCPRS- This is a society in which they have the royalties to a song or a band and in order to use their music in a film you will have to ask them for permission and pay a fee otherwise you are using the song illegally and you can be sued for that. For example if you want to use a Rhianna song in your film or any other commercial endeavor then you will have to ask permission for PRS and pay them for the rights to do so. Artists use this so their music can not be used because if this did not exist their would be no limit to what you can use for free in your film. When people have not properly paid for the rights to play music owned by PRS they have bee sued. PRS have also targeted small § even police stations. In one case they told a 61 year old mechanic that he could not play music from his radio unless he paid 150 pound to play it.
