20 designs

  1. I picked this font for kids because I fought it looked childish and as id a child had drawn it with crayons or paint. It is also informal.
  2. I picked this font because it is ancient Greek text and hundreds of years old so it suits the word history and adds a historical feel to the word.
  3. I picked this font for the word sophistication because it is neat and flicks at the end. The letters are very fine and it looks as if a rich sophisticated man may have written it.
  4. I picked this for the word modern because it’s a very new style of font and not used many times before, it’s got a real science fiction feel to it.
  5. I picked this font for art because it is messy and seems to be done with a paintbrush. Because art has no limits or rules I made the paint brushed letter seem arty.
  6. Fashion is very refined and is usually seem as something rich people indulge in. As fashion itself stands out as does the font.
  7. I picked this font for the word sport because it shows people doing sport forming letter while engaging in their activities. From the pictures/letters you can make a link to sport.
  8. I picked this because it’s modern and its san serif. Its bubble writing so the letters themselves are quite funny, it looks like its made out of balloons which is usually associated with clowns.
  9. I picked this because the letters are sharp and straight to the point, just like drama itself. Its sans serif, which gives it, a modern feel.
  10. I picked this because it looks for arty just as the font I used for the word ‘art’ looks like. Its unkempt so it has no formal feels.

11. I picked this font because it suits the word teenager well. Its in a graffiti type feel which whenever seen is associated with teenagers and young people.

12. I picked this fount because its letters are long and wide, just as a fat man is long and wide.

Research Proposal

Research Proposal

To:  Ms. Moore
From:            Murat Kurt
Date:  15th October 2012
Subject: Research Proposal

Proposed Research Topic:

What type of animation (real life, CGI, cartoon) appeals to the target audience more? Which music and colours is also the most effective in doing this too? To do this I will have to understand the corporate identity and how the audience view this company so as not to alienate them from it.

Purposes:
I except to accomplish a good understanding of what are audiences want and how we can provide this for them correctly and cheaply. I expect to make the corporate identity much clearer to the audience. I hope to accomplish a clear and interesting ident that can grab the audience’s attention.

Background
I know that animation and CGI are widely recognised to appeal to the target audience of 216-34 year olds because they have been used by many successful channel’s whose target audience is 16-34 year olds so the ident will most likely. The music used for most ident’s are modern and listened to by the given age group so I will use modern music. What I need to know is what colours or animations appeal to the target audience the most.

Scope:
I will invest time in research throughout the given time. I will conduct five surveys and ten interviews to get a good idea of what the audience want and how we can get it to them.

Method:
First I will begin to analysis idents from different channel with the same target audience, and understand what they do that appeals to the audience. I will analysis channels such as E4, VIVA, and MUSIC. Then I will begin to interview people who watch the channel regularly and take he feedback to get a better understanding of our target audience. I will then begin a survey to get an even better understanding of what we are doing right and wrong.

Timetable:
Prepare proposal by: 16/10/2012
Complete literature review: 24 October
Complete fieldwork by: 14/11/2012
Complete analysis by: 16/11/2012
Give presentation on: 23/122/2012
Complete final report by:21/11/2012

Limitations:
Because e4 will have so many viewers it will be impossible to question all of them so i only have a small understanding of the ident. maybe because Scottish and Irish people have different tastes to english people the results may not satisfy people over seas.

This chart shows that 60% of the people who done this survey are men and the 40% are women, most of the data shown further down probably relates more to men then woman.

This chart shows that most of the people who done this survey watch shows late at night so the ident may be better later at night.
This age group chart shows that most of our audience is 16+.
The majority of our viewers are either Asian or Black Caribbean, this may mean we have to broaden our horizons to relate more to different ethnic groups.

We have a wide range of occupations that watch our channel, most others specified self employed.
The majority picked Sci-Fi so it might be better to the a science fiction themed ident.
Most of our audience watch TV for more then seven hours a day so they have a good understanding of what they like and are well informed.
Most said not sure and some said yes, maybe CGI or real life might work better on our ident.
They mostly ticked the other box and said 'dubstep' this is popular with people.

Most of the auidiance said red so that colour may be used but we have to make sure it does not alienate our logo.

Clearances

The idea of clearances is to move something in the way or getting rid of it. Basically you will need legal permission to do stuff and if you don't you can get sued or arrested or even worse dead.

MCPRS- This is a society in which they have the royalties to a song or a band and in order to use their music in a film you will have to ask them for permission and pay a fee otherwise you are using the song illegally and you can be sued for that. For example if you want to use a Rhianna song in your film or any other commercial endeavor then you will have to ask permission for PRS and pay them for the rights to do so. Artists use this so their music can not be used because if this did not exist their would be no limit to what you can use for free in your film. When people have not properly paid for the rights to play music owned by PRS they have bee sued. PRS have also targeted small § even police stations. In one case they told a 61 year old mechanic that he could not play music from his radio unless he paid 150 pound to play it.

1.    The logo
2.    The logo position
3.    Colour
4.    E4 wording
5.    Font
6.    Size
7.    Headline colour

The logo

Text Box:

The logo position

My logo will always appear in the given colors unless it is plastered over a program it will then appear in a subtle black and white, placed in the bottom left corner of the screen so it doesn’t draw the attention away. The lettering can never be transparent otherwise you wont see the e4 logo. The logo’s lettering and number should at no time be coloured in and should always stay in the college type printing.
The logo should always be 8mm, and no bigger. The position of the logo should never be centered on the brick wall and should always stay a little of center.

This is how large the logo should be.

Colour

The lettering should always appear in that font, and should never be fully coloured in. There should always be a empty border so it doesn’t appear to be confused with the brick wall behind it. During programming the brick walls can be transparent.

E4 wording

There should be no spaces between the E and the 4, and the 4 should always appear as a number and not written. The correct logo is E4. Not, Efour or E4.
E4 uses college font for all their logo’s and brand identity. The size of the font should never appear smaller then 5pt and there is no maximum to how large it can be.
The font size should always appear just a little bigger then the leading, the head of the E should just be higher then the 4. All of our advertisements for programs should appear in the given font size and style.

Font

The font used for this logo is college style. At no time should this font be smaller then 8mm. It can only be enlarged if the wall is also enlarged so it fits.

Size

The font size should always be bigger then the leading number 4, but not by too much. At least 30pt for font and 27pt for the leading.

Headline colour

The headline colour should always be black or purple.

ident analysis

Ident Analysis

An ident is a short clip, usually ten-fiteen seconds long, which is shown inbetween programming to advertise what channel the audience are watching and to advertise their channel. It allways appeals to the target audiance with teh use of sounds, music, colours and animation. Usually the idents are very similar, and use a sort of mascot so as not to alienate the audiances. The ident also resembles the channels corporate image or logo.

This is the ident for CBBC. The use of colours that are bright and primary relate to the target audiacne of young children and is also not to complicated. The colouring of the white CBBC part of the ident makes the logo stand out from the rest and the smaller BBC logo which is more formal so they didnt want to show it to much but had to to show the audiance that this shannel is owned by BBC. the use of font for the logo is modern and serif font, similar to bubble writing, which is used often by kids. the shadowing of the font also makes it pleasing to look at. the msuic used for this ident is also simple and catchy. They broadcast shows such as; Tracy Beaker returns, Dani's house and a host of other kid shows that appeal to the target audience and suit the ident. These programs are good to show because they are aimed at kids. Unlike the others, the programs used by BBC wouldn't work because they are aimed at older audiences and the comedy programs used for e4 would be considered to rude. some programs such as Tracy Beaker does deal with problems in care and unhappiness but deals with it very subtly. The use of animation in this ident makes it more child like and therefore was the correct choice. The music used for this ident is very catchy and simple, easily recognizable by children and suits this fast paced stuff thats going on in the short clip. the sounds of what's actually happening in the clip does over power the music though. The car in it seems to be very loud. The camera is used very well. It will show a part of the main object in the clip and zoom out to see what its doing and show its full body. The main object in the clip is always almost coloured in green and this keeps the corporate identity.

This ident appeals to the target audiance. The BBC usually appeal to the teen-adult-older persons audiance. The setting is calm and sophisticated which appeals to the audiance. The use of red worn by the monks also matches their corporate colour and identity. The use of the colour red is also signifiant as the channel is a british channel and red is the prominent colour for the flag of St. George It is also aesthiticly pleasing to see their reflections cast in the pool beneath them. The BBC is the home of mostly british channels. Such as; Eastenders, Antics road show, Panorama. some of these shows are to entertain. For example eastenders portrays the life of average people in London and the troubles that face young parents and also abuse, after the show BBC usually provide a small broadcast showing the number of a hotline that people can ring if they are experiencing these problems, this works well and builds a kind of bond or commitment to the channel. The people in this ident are real and not animated but i do think they are in front of a green screen, this is well done though and not to obvious. They could be in a real location but I doubt they would pay to much for an ident. The camera in this one starts of in the same way as the CBBC one does. Through the camera you cant see a lot of what is happening till it begins to zoom out revealing a group of men and woman dressed in red, the camera also seems to be following them as the monks move. the sound is very eerie and is native to their surroundings, the music stays mostly the same throughout.

This ident is for the channel e4. The use of the colour purple appeals to the audience because purple on TV, especially that shade is connected to the logo e4. They want to keep back their laid back take on things so don't make it to plain or to formal. It also appeals to the audience because of the comedy section of it, the use of random props and things happening makes it comical. E4 hosts shows like; the big bang theory, ugly betty, how i met your mother, one tree hill, 90210. These programs are aimed at young audience as they have a young cast and show problems that affect most young people. This ident is all animation, this is done for a reason. Because it shouldn't seem to formal and a lot of the things showed in this ident would be impossible. E4 is very creative in the way they made the music for this ident. Instead of a song or a tune they have mixed in various sounds from the different things happening around the ident. The ducks, fire, things moving and closing all mix together and make a tune almost. The camera at firsts pans around the room, which seems normal and then turns into chaos, editing to different situations, till it is all done and it shows what has happened, revealing the random things and the E4 sign which boldly stands out in lights, this is important to remind their audience of the channel.

BBC logo history.

The first attempt at a proper brand image came in 1953, when Abram Games was commissioned to design an on-air image, probably hastened by the imminent arrival of commercial competition. Games, who designed the logo for the Festival of Britain in 1951, created the logo nicknamed the 'Bat's wings' logo, an elegant and rather ethereal image which captured the spirit of the times. In reality, it was an elaborate mechanical brass contraption, with a tiny spinning globe in its centre for BBC Scotland, the spot in the middle was replaced by a lion. The channel's most famous emblem, the globe, appeared in its first guise on 30 September 1963. The first such indent featured the continuity announcer speaking the words 'This is BBC Television' over a spinning globe while a BBC TV caption would appear.
