pros and cons of each idea

The Antarctic idea

This would be done in animation.

Pros; Keeps with corporate identity
Quite funny as well so it would appeal to the target audience
If its shown in winter it would be relatable or even Christmas
Cons; It would be to difficult to do in animation or real life footage
Might drag out for to long (ten seconds might not be enough)
Because of its context this ident may alter the logo of E4 and this will not stick with corporate identity.

Fat man and Burger idea

This would be done in real life footage because it would be easy to do and animation would just be pointless.

Pros; This would be easy to do
         Sticks with corporate identity
The onions and the mayonnaise would be quite clever to make an E4 logo.
Cons; The burger would cost money.
We will have to have permission from the Cafe to do this.
Might be difficult to sort the onions and mayo.

Two people playing catch idea

This would be done in animation as it would be impossible to obtain a large E4 sign and hang it of the roof.

Pros; It would be funny.
Relatable because we've all been hit with a ball in the face.
The large E4 sign will constantly attract attention and so it sticks with corporate identity.
Cons; Would be difficult to do on Stick Pivot.
Might be longer than ten seconds.
It will take a while to make and I don't know if your able to put an E4 logo in the video

5 ident ideas

Five Ideas

1.    Two people are playing catch with two different balls (both coloured purple, for corporate identity). A large E4 sign hangs of the roof between the two people, it starts to unhinge and breaks this is when the two people throw the balls. The E4 sign is now planted on the floor between them, their balls bounce of it and come back to hit them both, their knocked down and the E4 sign is the main thing attracting attention now.
2.    Two snowballs are rolling down a hill, both opposite each other and rolling down different hills. One hill has purple slow and is building up a big ball of purple snow and the other is building up white snow. They collide and once all the mess clears it turns out that they formed the E4 sign.
3.    A small metallic ball is rolling through narrow tunnels and, turning in all directions, the small ball collides at the end of the tunnel with a red button. Pinball music starts and the camera zooms out to find a pinball machine with the tunnels that form the E4 sign now lightened up with purple neon lights
4.     A fat man is sitting in a burger restaurant. He doesn’t have very good hygiene and is wearing a food stained vest. On the table he’s eating from his a white plate. The man takes the burger into his hand, and from the rear of the burger white mayonnaise sauce and purple onions drop onto the plate to form an E4 logo.
5.    A man is treading across the Antarctic, up and falls to the ground, he can’t find his way out and all he can see is snow. He gives the camera zooms out and it shows he was in the middle of the E4 sign.

E Sting Research

Top 5 E Sting idents

1. http://www.e4.com/video/AuTmYhnJfLU7CmSJXTI29v/play.e4 - E4 Hit Combo

The e4 hit combo was my favorite e sting because of its contents, street fighter appeals to me as a young man and its fun to watch. Its also very clever using the combos to add up to the channels logo. The colours re very bright and therefore eye catching, and mostly purple so it doesn't stray from corporate identity

2. http://www.e4.com/video/TvNp9ZdD3JpOeAPg7zs3Q/play.e4 - A different kinda war

A different kind of war is interesting because its random which E4 does a lot of. The colour of corporate identity (purple) does not show up often and in that sense the ident does not work well, but is visually pleasing and entertaining.

3. http://www.e4.com/video/mkRyNWPf1Uwe2Xd7vSzotF/play.e4 - My Kingdom for a Horse

This is a very interning and also funny ident (it appeared on E4). The randomness does not alienate the audience to much from the original e4 ident style.

4. http://www.e4.com/video/l3PHc8TebfPgMT1X7AAeRm/play.e4 -  E4 logo built in Mine-Craft

The Mine-Craft ident works well because of the popularity of the game so it appeals to a lot of E4 viewers who may play the game so find the ident interesting. The logo is also very big and draws the attention of the viewer so they don't actually concentrate much on the game.

5. http://www.e4.com/video/BVRiCAumq8t7FmlIO7dBC/play.e4 - Morph E4

The morph ident works well because of the randomness and the morphing objects are all purple which sticks to corporate identity. It ends with a TV and then turning into a massive E4 logo, these are all relevant things so works well.

Ident Research analysis.

Stle is very random but is centered around the bear on the tractor.
There is animation because it would be harder to do this in real life, more laid back.
The ident starts as a quite barn but explodes into fames and liquid purple, this purple stands out beause it is important to show their identity. The ident is very short, only twenty seconds, so its straught to the point and finshes before it gets to confusing. It appeals because its laid back.
The concept of this ident is again randomness but all of it centered around the colour purple. The bear again is a main part of the ident. The main colour is purple and it is leaking from the fridge and the windows. Again this ident is only twenty seconds long. It appeals because it is in animation format and is very laid back which suits the target audiance. it ends with a large e4 symbol created by different aspects of the ident.
Again all of these e4 idents are very similar. Randomness, the wash of pruple and the bear are all main parts, so it does not alienate the audiance. The colour is again pruple. The bear allways finds himself in the middle of this. E4 is again created from the randomness out of popcorn. It hits the target audiance well to because these are all things young people do. They go to the hairdressers which is featured in this ident, they go the the beacha dn tehy eat popcorn so its relatable.

This CBBC ident works well. The colour is all green which is usually associated with laid back calmness which would apply to kids coming home from shcool. The use of colour (black, white and green) makes the CBBC logo stand out and makes the company noticable. The ident is around twelve seconds long. Each character is shown in the format of actors that appear in CBBC shows and speedy cars (all things kids like) this is why it is relatable.

BBC has different target audiances for different parts of the day. during early morning it is aimed at kids who want to watch cartoons, this washes out into the early afternoon then BBC begin to broadcast other shows made for older audiances. They would not this ident early on as it is more sophisticated and more made for adults. the use of the colour red on the monks and reflected in the calm water clearly advertises that the audiance is wathcing the BBC, the use of sophistication gives the viewer an idea about their corporate identity. The music is calm and foriegn to add a realistic feel to the ident.

How does sound and Mise en Scene create a response from an audiance in a 3-5 min clip of the film Shawshank Redemption?

The film depicts the life of a young prisoner called Andy, who is serving two life sentences for a murder he did not commit. Throughout the film he is shown to be strong against everything he faces and the use of the stoic theme (Phillip Newman) and mis en scene really highlights these moments, the tone of the songs and the pitch. While in prison he befriends the inmate red and together they share their troubles.  Finally Andy does escape and Red (Morgan Freeman) follows him soon after. Throughout the film we are driven by hope, promises and good but we also see the ugly side of life and how the better side overcomes it.

Tall drink of water scene (Andy entering the Shawshank)

Sound

As we all know the music and sounds in the film are just as important as the visuals. The stoic theme presented in this film do a lot of things and make the audience feel very attached to the character Andy. The song maintains a high pitch through out which dominates the lower pitch throughout the two minute piece. I believe this in its self tells the story, the high pitch representing hope and the lower pitch representing his struggle, but just as Andy conquered his struggle the music does the same. Though when it ends we are left with a eerie low pitched violin which leaves us with a sense of fear. The music does not really reach a climax and stays the same throughout, that is more common in horror films, in the Shawshank Redemption it does not idolize prison as many other films do, and so the music is simple and slow which describes to the audience how bad a situation it is, Andy is not in an action film where he will fight and become the Alpha male, he is a man who will just be trying to survive like most of the others. The timbre of the song is heavy throughout, that heavy underlining violin is the constant reminder of bad things happening. We are exposed to violins playing throughout this piece and overlapping each-other and also a trumpet towards the end. Throughout the scene and overlapping the music are the shouts and swears from the other inmates which tells us that this is not going to be an easy ride for Andy and these men are not just others who have been accidently put in the Shawshank but killers and rapists. Even though at this point we have neither seen or heard Andy deny these murders so we do not know if he is innocent or not and so do not sympathize for him but more get a better understanding of the Shawshank. Also whenever the guards seem to speak the camera closes up on Andy and the guards voices seem to be distant perhaps showing that Andy is far away from the prison mentally or perhaps tries not to listen to the guards and the hoots showing the pressure he is under. When Reds friends and him are speaking and betting their voices are the only ones that seem calm and friendly in all of this chaos of screaming and cage rattling and it almost gives the impression to the audience that they are a source of calm and good  compared to everything else around them.

Mise en scene

The camera is watching from above as it sweeps through the prison and through its guarded walls. The largeness of the walls and their density strongly relate to that sense of being caged and so far away from the outside world, it comes as a shock to the audience. The use of uniforms the guards wear and the prison jumpsuits worn by the inmates also gives us a good understanding. The guards wear black which is commonly regarded to be the colour of danger, evil, and other things that are not good, and through just the colour of their clothes the audience is instantly given the impression that they are all those things that are associated with the colour black. This also gives a clear distinction between the two people as they are very light and dark colours. The use of confined or caged spaces in which the guards and the inmates are surrounded in strongly suggests that they are dangerous but also acts as the physical metaphor of the obstacles Andy will face during his stay at the Shawshank. When Andy gets of the bus ad through the gate the camera closes up on his face as it begins to sweat his features became a little distorted which suggests he is under a lot of pressure. As the camera sweeps quite close to the cage and the inmates behind it it is almost like were are looking through Andy's eyes and hearing the rattle of the cage as the prisoners screams get louder, perhaps meaning Andy's is beginning to get more nervous. At this point in the film we understand Andy is a banker and during the trial we see him dressed smartly and neatly but now he is dressed messily and his hair untidy again highlighting the fact that he is scarred and this makes the audience really believe and feel sorry for what's going on for him. Through showing Andy in that bad state and seeing the change he goes through the film it really shows the audience latter on how far he has come from entering the shawshank. The men that come out of that bus are dressed poorly, others rich, old and young, it almost shows the audience that whatever you were like outside the prisoned walls and the cages your all the same inside. The audience's first view of the shawshank are the guards dressed in black standing in between the bus, and the in mates and this perhaps is a metaphor for what stands in between Andy's struggle are the guards. The lighting in this scene is very dim even though it is the middle of the day. the walls are grey and the area seems gloomy, grey is usually associated by the audience's with; Lifeless, no imagination, oppressed, there is no life in the color so the lighting effect works well to show the audience exactly the kind of place the shawshank is. And also because this film is set in the past the lighting is an important part of reminding the audiences that as people usually associate the old ear through the black and white films they watched and so the dim lighting works well. During the scene when Red and his friends are making bets we notice they are wearing their clothes in the exact same way as each-other and their caps are identical, this shows the audience that they have a friendship or a bond of some sorts. another interesting thing is I think the audience would take a liking to them for that exact reason. among all that chaos and shouting that group are standing quietly and this separates them from the others. Later on in the film the use of Red (who is an African American) and Andy's (who is white) inter racial friendship during such a racist time period makes the friendship even more special for the audience and again showing them that they are all the same in the shawshank.
Taken 2

The film was directed by Oliver Megaton and was produced by Luc Besson who also wrote the film. it stars Liam Neeson and others.

The film took place during early 2012 and was first shown on the 7th of September in the American film festival, i think one of the reasons it was shown in America fist is because the protagonist is American and so it would appeal to them a lot more then most other countries.   on the 7th of October it was released in 25 international countries, this would be because Hollywood produced it and so it would be shown in America first.

Box Office

As of october 21st the film had grossed 105,832,339 in north america and internationally 174,452,000 which is very good, this is due to the success of the first film so fans of that were automatically drawn to this. This brings the total amount to 280, 284,339. For the opening day in north america and canada the film grossed 18.4 million. 1.5 of this came from midnight showings which again sows that the people really wanted to see this film and the first film helped the sequel succeed in the box office. During its second week in the box office it dropped 55.8% from its first week, this could be for a number of reasons; word of mouth, for example someone might have seen it and disliked it and told his friends not to watch it. Another reason could be the arrival of other films like; Sinister and Looper, both of which were box office hits. Taken 2 earned 37 million in the first week of showing in the UK. Compared to north America this is lower maybe because the protagonist is American and it was released in america earlier.

The film got mostly mixed reviews from critics, it got 21% on rotten tomatoes, other critics said the film was "Taken 2 is slick, professional action".

Production

Filming took place throughout early 2012; scenes depicting Neeson and Grace's characters in Los Angles were shot in January.
Istanbul scenes were shot in November 2011 but were delayed due to unforeseen weather.

Sequel

Liam Neeson doesn't know if there will be a sequel but twentieth century fox say that there will be but the story line will be completely different from the same formulae Taken has used in the last two films. This should be interesting and I think some thing called taken, the next film something or someone will have to be Taken so instead of a family member being taken an important piece might be taken and Liam Neeson will have to find it.

What on earth is Hollywood about?

Hollywood is a literal place on the map in Los Angles, California. The area we now know as Hollywood had once been an agricultural community. Hollywood was named by H.J. Whitley who is known as the "Father of Hollywood". During the early twentieth century big film companies began to set up there companies in Los Angles because of the weather and its closeness to Mexico. Four major film companies had set up in Hollywood; Paramount, Columbia, RKO and Warner Bros. It was known as the first celebrity community. Hollywood is the centre of the American movie industry, one of the reasons it became so is because other film companies were using equipment they did not have the rights to and where being seized. The film industry before Hollywood was mostly centred in New York but because film companies had troubles there they relocated, in 1912 Hollywood was second to New York in movie production and by 1915 most of the films were being produced in Hollywood.

Now Hollywood is the centre of the movie industry and one of the most well known places in the world, it is known as a celebrity community as most of the Hollywood stars today reside there. It was later on in the twentieth century that other businesses began moving to Hollywood and recording studious. Though a lot of the industries had spread out into surrounding areas most of the; editing, props and post-production are still based in Hollywood. In the late 1980's it also became the centre point for the Hard Rock scene, such bands as Metalica and Motley Crue.

H.J. Whitley had brought the land we know as Hollywood in 1886, and this was before the film industries decided to set up there and it was only a small neighbourhood, so H.J.Whitley is the closest anyone has gotten to really owning Hollywood.
Hollywood is more a term put to the large movie industries in that area, people usually associate it with production companies, stars and recording companies so in that sense they own Hollywood. It is a part of Los Angles, annexed by them in 1910. The people we see as stars; Tom Cruise, Adam Sandler, Will Smith etc. are shown as prominent figures in the movie industry a lot of us believe to be Hollywood so in a way the stars own it to.
In the book "An empire of their own." Neal Gabler explains that the Jews had built Hollywood. These Jewish immigrants had come from poor fatherless backgrounds and felt like outsiders. In Hollywood these people were able to run their own industry and that it accomplished their goal of the American Dream. It is widely speculated that Jew's do own Hollywood.

The definition of a Hollywood studio is; A major film studio is a movie production and distribution company that releases a substantial number of films annually and consistently... an example of this would be Universal studios. This is a major corporation that owns theme parks, hotels and restaurants and its mascot is Woody the Woodpecker.
Marvel studios was original Marvel films. Its a television and motion picture studio based in Los Angles. Marvel in the mid 1980's began to sell options to major film studios to the rights to make a film on their super heroes, but this did not go well for them, on the other hand their rival DC was having massive success selling Superman and Batman films. Marvel created Marvel studious during the early nineties. They also began making television shows based on their super heroes. The first film that had come from Marvel studios was "Blade" starring Wesley Snipes. The film grossed over $131,183,530 world wide. Soon after Sony brought the rights to Spider man. The company was soon brought by Disney studios for four billion. The reason I believe Marvel made there own studio is because they were not doing well selling the rights to there super heroes and decided they could do it themselves, they have been very successful so far with the Avengers that ended up being a block buster. Disney brought the rights to Iron man 3 and the Avengers from Paramount pictures.

What makes a Hollywood film is; Synergy, Convergence, Marketing and Stars. A Hollywood film is usually perceived as a big budget and massive stars film, an A list film that will usually be Block buster.
Synergy is advertising techniques used by the producers to promote their films, through toys, posters, trailers, video games and soundtracks. All this is usually done before hand to draw attention to the film so you can spend money and go see it. An example of this is; before the spider man films came about they promoted this franchise by making toys and "web shooters" that attracted their target audience to the film.
Convergence is the idea that computer, television and radio are combining into a single media. An example of this would be a mobile phone and a camera, becoming two integrated technologies. Using the computer you can stream movies on line so film companies make a legitimate way to do this such as; Love film or Net Flix. Gaming consoles can also be used to do this, making a video game based on a film will not only promote it but will be a convergence. We can consume films and many different aspects of the media by convergence technology. An example of this would be; a film app for the Iphone. On one website for a brand new Hollywood film it gives at least eight ways of convergence and consumption of a Hollywood film. We'd consume the film through DVD and Blue Ray. The film will be converged into other media aspects by; You tube, Pod cast, Video games and Iphone apps.
Film marketing or promoting is advertising and branding your film before release so people can recognise and so the promoters can "build hype" over it, this is basically cementing your audience or target market of the film before it's release, you can do this through; Teaser trailers, posters, soundtracks etc. Trailers are usually the most effective because they are targeted at movie-goers. TV is an effective way to promote films because it is a visual medium and is quick to deliver to vast audience, this is effective because movies don't usually stay in the cinema longer then five weeks. Distributors can spend around four BILLION a year just advertising thirty second clips on TV and Radio. Another effective way marketing can be done through TV is if audiences hear a  mention of the film on a show, they watch and enjoy. Television talk shows can market these films by having interviews with the stars who talk about the film and market it themselves. Another way of doing this are the five minute behind the scenes documentaries seen before movies, the most recent being the James Bond Sky fall documentary of Film four. As well as TV the film can also be promoted through the Internet. The promoters can make a web site for the film with photo gallery's, trailers and interviews so people wanting to see the film can track its progress. To do all this the promoters will need to do an audience research.
Stars are just as important as marketing, synergy and convergence in making a Hollywood film what it is. If the star e.g. Will Smith is in a film, and he is been being consumed for years and years by fans then they would want to go see that film. The same also happened for his son, if it wasn't advertised so much that Jayden Smith was Will Smith's son would the film had been as popular as it had been?

Liability insurance, completion insurance

Public liability insurance is where the production company buy insurance to protect themselves against legal action if a member of the general public is injured or harmed during the making of your TV show.

Completion insurance is where you buy insurance to protect yourself against money loss and legal action if your show is not completed or cannot be by the due date promised to the general public.

I think they should all have completion insurance because if they promise the general public through advertising through the user of radio, TV and the internet they should deliver or else thats false advertising.

The prices would vary for different productions, this is probably based upon; the budget, the advertising, and public expectations. A smaller channel like the shopping channel would have not payed a lot for completion insurance whereas a film producer who are producing a block buster hit would pay a lot for it.

Legal procedures in post production are put in place for the safety of the people involved and to make sure they do not break the law during post production.

You would have to also get insurance for things you do and the people you are working with so if they get injured or broken then you are insured and safe, if you are not insured they can sue you. Legal issues arise whenever you are doing something dangerous where you can get hurt, or just in general.  The lighting up ahead can fall on people and they can snap their necks so you need to have public liability insurance to protect yourself from them suing you and if they do you have to pay the bare minimum.

Analyisis of interview

Analysis of Interviews

All five of the people I have interviewed watch TV for over four hours or more per day, so I believe the people I have interviewed are well in formed on TV and their shows and idents, so these comments will be relevant to other peoples.

When I asked what channels where their favorite three replied with e4. One replied with Comedy central and one with film4. This shows that most of the people that answered my questions are comedy fans so the ident we will build on their information will be perhaps comedy based. From this we understand that most of our audiences enjoy comedy so that should be a main part of our ident.

When I asked what their favorite music was HIP-POP. This gives us the idea that our ident may be better received if we play hip-pop style music in the background. I also interviewed a media teacher who is older then most of the other people I have interviewed; she is conscience of such things and suggested that our ident would be better without lyrics in the music. This would be better because the lyrics may attract attention from the actual ident and the voiceover announcing the next program.

I asked what color was their favorite because this would be good information to have for when we create our ident and decide what to colour it, what would suit it best and appeal to the target audience the most. The answers I got were varied; Green, red, Purple, Blue and grey were all given once. It is difficult to extract exact information from this. What I can take from this is that most of the colours they picked were brighter and only one dim colour; Grey. So I think it would be best to present our ident with bright colours, this would also be interesting and eye catching rather then dim colours.

When I asked what the best way to present the ident would be all of them decided that animation was the best. This shows that animation would be the best choice because you can do more with it and the people want it.

When I asked what their favorite genre of programming was most of them said comedy but a few said drama. Maybe the ident needs to be comedy based to appeal to the audience more but a hint of drama as well.

When I asked if the viewers if the actors should perform in these idents some aid yes and others said no. I personally think it’s a bad idea, though it might bring popularity to the program it may confuse people on the identity of the channel and we would rather be advertising their show that broadcasting our corporate identity.

When I asked about what their favorite ident was they all replied E4 barn ident. This is also backed up in the other answers because that ident has; animation, colour, music (with no lyrics) and is funny. Making idents similar to this one would be a good idea.

People want a lot of things going on in these idents and more animation.

When I asked if text would work well in the ident they all replied no as it would draw attention from the ident its self and the voiceover person.

20 designs

  1. I picked this font for kids because I fought it looked childish and as id a child had drawn it with crayons or paint. It is also informal.
  2. I picked this font because it is ancient Greek text and hundreds of years old so it suits the word history and adds a historical feel to the word.
  3. I picked this font for the word sophistication because it is neat and flicks at the end. The letters are very fine and it looks as if a rich sophisticated man may have written it.
  4. I picked this for the word modern because it’s a very new style of font and not used many times before, it’s got a real science fiction feel to it.
  5. I picked this font for art because it is messy and seems to be done with a paintbrush. Because art has no limits or rules I made the paint brushed letter seem arty.
  6. Fashion is very refined and is usually seem as something rich people indulge in. As fashion itself stands out as does the font.
  7. I picked this font for the word sport because it shows people doing sport forming letter while engaging in their activities. From the pictures/letters you can make a link to sport.
  8. I picked this because it’s modern and its san serif. Its bubble writing so the letters themselves are quite funny, it looks like its made out of balloons which is usually associated with clowns.
  9. I picked this because the letters are sharp and straight to the point, just like drama itself. Its sans serif, which gives it, a modern feel.
  10. I picked this because it looks for arty just as the font I used for the word ‘art’ looks like. Its unkempt so it has no formal feels.

11. I picked this font because it suits the word teenager well. Its in a graffiti type feel which whenever seen is associated with teenagers and young people.

12. I picked this fount because its letters are long and wide, just as a fat man is long and wide.

Research Proposal

Research Proposal

To:  Ms. Moore
From:            Murat Kurt
Date:  15th October 2012
Subject: Research Proposal

Proposed Research Topic:

What type of animation (real life, CGI, cartoon) appeals to the target audience more? Which music and colours is also the most effective in doing this too? To do this I will have to understand the corporate identity and how the audience view this company so as not to alienate them from it.

Purposes:
I except to accomplish a good understanding of what are audiences want and how we can provide this for them correctly and cheaply. I expect to make the corporate identity much clearer to the audience. I hope to accomplish a clear and interesting ident that can grab the audience’s attention.

Background
I know that animation and CGI are widely recognised to appeal to the target audience of 216-34 year olds because they have been used by many successful channel’s whose target audience is 16-34 year olds so the ident will most likely. The music used for most ident’s are modern and listened to by the given age group so I will use modern music. What I need to know is what colours or animations appeal to the target audience the most.

Scope:
I will invest time in research throughout the given time. I will conduct five surveys and ten interviews to get a good idea of what the audience want and how we can get it to them.

Method:
First I will begin to analysis idents from different channel with the same target audience, and understand what they do that appeals to the audience. I will analysis channels such as E4, VIVA, and MUSIC. Then I will begin to interview people who watch the channel regularly and take he feedback to get a better understanding of our target audience. I will then begin a survey to get an even better understanding of what we are doing right and wrong.

Timetable:
Prepare proposal by: 16/10/2012
Complete literature review: 24 October
Complete fieldwork by: 14/11/2012
Complete analysis by: 16/11/2012
Give presentation on: 23/122/2012
Complete final report by:21/11/2012

Limitations:
Because e4 will have so many viewers it will be impossible to question all of them so i only have a small understanding of the ident. maybe because Scottish and Irish people have different tastes to english people the results may not satisfy people over seas.

This chart shows that 60% of the people who done this survey are men and the 40% are women, most of the data shown further down probably relates more to men then woman.

This chart shows that most of the people who done this survey watch shows late at night so the ident may be better later at night.
This age group chart shows that most of our audience is 16+.
The majority of our viewers are either Asian or Black Caribbean, this may mean we have to broaden our horizons to relate more to different ethnic groups.

We have a wide range of occupations that watch our channel, most others specified self employed.
The majority picked Sci-Fi so it might be better to the a science fiction themed ident.
Most of our audience watch TV for more then seven hours a day so they have a good understanding of what they like and are well informed.
Most said not sure and some said yes, maybe CGI or real life might work better on our ident.
They mostly ticked the other box and said 'dubstep' this is popular with people.

Most of the auidiance said red so that colour may be used but we have to make sure it does not alienate our logo.

Clearances

The idea of clearances is to move something in the way or getting rid of it. Basically you will need legal permission to do stuff and if you don't you can get sued or arrested or even worse dead.

MCPRS- This is a society in which they have the royalties to a song or a band and in order to use their music in a film you will have to ask them for permission and pay a fee otherwise you are using the song illegally and you can be sued for that. For example if you want to use a Rhianna song in your film or any other commercial endeavor then you will have to ask permission for PRS and pay them for the rights to do so. Artists use this so their music can not be used because if this did not exist their would be no limit to what you can use for free in your film. When people have not properly paid for the rights to play music owned by PRS they have bee sued. PRS have also targeted small § even police stations. In one case they told a 61 year old mechanic that he could not play music from his radio unless he paid 150 pound to play it.

Text Box:

The logo position

My logo will always appear in the given colors unless it is plastered over a program it will then appear in a subtle black and white, placed in the bottom left corner of the screen so it doesn’t draw the attention away. The lettering can never be transparent otherwise you wont see the e4 logo. The logo’s lettering and number should at no time be coloured in and should always stay in the college type printing.
The logo should always be 8mm, and no bigger. The position of the logo should never be centered on the brick wall and should always stay a little of center.

This is how large the logo should be.

Colour

The lettering should always appear in that font, and should never be fully coloured in. There should always be a empty border so it doesn’t appear to be confused with the brick wall behind it. During programming the brick walls can be transparent.

E4 wording

There should be no spaces between the E and the 4, and the 4 should always appear as a number and not written. The correct logo is E4. Not, Efour or E4.
E4 uses college font for all their logo’s and brand identity. The size of the font should never appear smaller then 5pt and there is no maximum to how large it can be.
The font size should always appear just a little bigger then the leading, the head of the E should just be higher then the 4. All of our advertisements for programs should appear in the given font size and style.

Font

The font used for this logo is college style. At no time should this font be smaller then 8mm. It can only be enlarged if the wall is also enlarged so it fits.

Size

The font size should always be bigger then the leading number 4, but not by too much. At least 30pt for font and 27pt for the leading.

Headline colour

The headline colour should always be black or purple.
